The skin around the eye area is very delicate and is constantly moving to convey our emotions. It is thinner than on the rest of the skin on our face and is often the first place to show signs of ageing.
If you are using an eye cream, or eye serum, there are a lot of extra benefits that can be gained from the right application, on top of the actual product claims. Here are our top tips on the best way to apply your eye cream
1. Use sparingly
Do not be tempted to slather the cream around the eye area. You only need a very small amount (the size of a grain of rice) to target this area, too much can leave you with puffy eyes the next morning.
2. Use gentle pressure
The ring fingers are best, as these will naturally apply the least amount of pressure to the area vs other fingers (try this is you don’t believe us.)
3. Don’t go too close
It’s best to apply your cream around the orbital bone only, this is usually the part where lines start to form, but also note that the cream will absorb around this area to affect the relevant areas.
4. Work from the inside out
To help with lymph drainage around the eye (to help reduce puffiness), start from the inner corner of your nose, underneath the eye, and tap outwards along the orbital bone. Repeat this underneath the brow bone, again starting from the inside corner and working outwards. Press down in a gentle tapping motion, to avoid pulling the skin around the eye area.
5. For an extra de-puffing fix
Leave your eye cream/serum in the fridge. The additional cooling effect will work to reduce any puffiness around the eye, as the cold temperature causes the blood vessels underneath the eye to constrict, reducing the flow of liquid in the area.
